"Stock tracker Chrome extension" covers more than one job. Some people mean a portfolio tool that stores how many shares they own and shows day change and total P&L. Others mean a price watchlist, a ticker bar on the page, a new-tab market dashboard, or a side panel. The right pick depends on which of those you actually want.

We make InvestFellow, so keep that in mind as you read. InvestFellow is a toolbar and watchlist price tracker. It shows symbols you follow in a slim bar while you browse. It does not track share counts, cost basis, allocation or portfolio P&L. If that's what you need, a portfolio extension is the better fit, and a few are listed below.

Facts about the other tools come from their own Chrome Web Store listings, opened November 6, 2026 (sources at the bottom). Prices in any of these tools can be delayed. Nothing here is advice on what to buy or sell.

Five kinds of stock tracker in Chrome

Type What it mainly tracks When you see it Examples (per their pages)
Portfolio / P&L popupHoldings, day P&L, allocationWhen you click the iconPortfolioWatch, Stocks Extension (portfolio view)
Watchlist popupPrices for symbols you followWhen you click the iconStock Tracker (PopVia), Stock Radar, Stocks Extension
Toolbar / ticker barPrices on the page while you browseOn regular web pages, without clickingInvestFellow, Ticker Screener (floating tape)
New-tab dashboardWatchlist and/or portfolio on each new tabWhen you open a tabSee the watchlist guide
Side panelWatchlist beside the pageWhile the panel is openTicker Screener; also see the watchlist guide

You can mix types. A portfolio popup for holdings and a bar for a short price list is a common split. Two extensions means two sets of permissions to review.

1. Portfolio / P&L popup

These tools ask for share counts (and often cost). They show market value, day P&L, total P&L and sometimes an allocation chart. That is the right family if "tracker" means "how is my portfolio doing today."

PortfolioWatch

Per its listing, PortfolioWatch tracks stocks, ETFs and crypto in a popup. The free plan covers up to 15 holdings, day and total P&L, an allocation doughnut chart, up to 5 price alerts (Chrome notifications), and CSV export, with no account required. Holdings stay on your device. Paid plans (Pro $3.99/month, Ultra $5.99/month per the listing) raise those limits and add multiple portfolios, faster refresh, import/export and more. The listing says quotes may be delayed up to 15 minutes, and that it does not connect to a brokerage.

Where it wins: holdings P&L, allocation and CSV export on a free plan. InvestFellow does not do that.

Stocks Extension (portfolio view)

Per its listing, Stocks Extension is mainly a customizable watchlist for stocks and indices, with quote details and a market overview. It also has a portfolio view: you can add the number of shares you hold and track gains and losses. The listing doesn't state a price.

Where it fits: you want one popup for a watchlist and a simple holdings view. It still isn't a bar on the page.

2. Watchlist popup

A watchlist popup tracks prices for symbols you follow. You open it when you want a glance. No share counts required.

Stock Tracker (PopVia)

Per its listing, Stock Tracker is a simple watchlist: add a symbol, see price and change, remove what you don't need. It says prices update automatically every minute. Offered by PopVia.com.

Where it fits: a minimal popup watchlist with a one-minute refresh. No portfolio P&L and no on-page bar.

Stock Radar

Per its listing, Stock Radar is a lightweight watchlist with price alerts and hover quote cards for patterns like $AAPL on selected financial sites. You can expand a card for open, high, low, previous close, volume and update time, and watch short-term movement windows (5, 15 or 30 minutes). No account. Watchlist and alerts stay in Chrome storage. The listing says market data may be delayed.

Where it wins: free alerts on a small tool, plus hover cards on some finance pages. InvestFellow's alerts are Premium only.

3. Toolbar or ticker bar on the page

This is the "prices stay in view while I browse" type. The tracker is a strip on the page, not a popup you have to open.

InvestFellow

InvestFellow puts your watchlist in a thin bar at the top or bottom of the page. It can scroll or stay still. You can show it on every site or only the ones you choose. The watchlist takes stocks, ETFs, indices and futures. Currency pairs appear in the search results and can be added. The bar and the watchlist are free, with no account, and prices refresh every 2 minutes. Hover a symbol for more detail, and click it for the chart.

Premium refreshes every 4 seconds and adds crypto, price alerts, a second bar for market movers (Index Funds, Most Active, Crypto, Top Gainers, Top Losers) and AI insights. It costs $4.99 a month after a 7-day free trial, paid through PayPal. Every new install also gets one free AI insight. You don't need an account for Premium either. InvestFellow is closed source, and it runs in Chrome and Edge. Prices can be delayed.

What it does not do: share counts, cost basis, day/total P&L, allocation charts or CSV import of holdings. Tickers are added one at a time under Quotes to monitor. If you need a portfolio ledger, use a portfolio tool above (or alongside) this bar.

Ticker Screener

Per its listing, Ticker Screener combines a live watchlist (stocks, crypto, forex, commodities), a floating ticker tape on webpages, charts, fundamentals, price alerts and a Global Markets hub. It says you can import symbols from an open tab, paste a list or upload CSV/TXT, manage multiple portfolios, and use a side panel or full-tab workspace. No account, no premium tier on the listing. The tape can sit at the top or bottom, with size, theme and speed controls, and you can disable it on specific sites. The listing says market data may be delayed.

Where it wins: free tape plus import, alerts and a large research surface in one extension. InvestFellow stays simpler: a bar and a watchlist, with alerts and market movers on Premium.

For more bar and overlay options (and install steps aimed at "add a ticker"), see How to add a stock ticker to Chrome.

4. New-tab dashboard

A new-tab tracker replaces Chrome's new tab with a market page. You see prices when you open a tab, not while you read. Names and trade-offs live in How to keep a stock watchlist in Chrome.

5. Side panel

A side-panel tracker keeps the list beside the page. You open the panel when you want it. Ticker Screener's listing describes a side panel (and a full-tab workspace). Other side-panel watchlists are covered in the watchlist guide.

Set up InvestFellow as a price tracker

  1. Install InvestFellow from the Chrome Web Store (or the Edge Add-ons page). Pin the icon from the extensions menu if you want it in the toolbar.
  2. Click the InvestFellow icon to open the popup.
  3. Under Quotes to monitor, type a company name or ticker in the Select symbols box and pick it from the list. Repeat for each one. The bar starts with six symbols (AAPL, GOOG, SPY, TSLA, MSFT and SONY), and you can remove any of them. There's no import.
  4. Choose Toolbar position (Top or Bottom) and Toolbar type (Scrolling or Static). Under Where is the toolbar shown?, pick Shown on all websites, or Only shown on selected websites and add each site, such as google.com.
  5. Open any regular web page (http or https). Your watchlist is in the bar.

The bar stays off Chrome's own pages (chrome://, edge://), the Chrome Web Store and Chrome's default new tab page, because Chrome doesn't let extensions draw there. If you can't see it, open an ordinary website.

Want a notification when a price crosses a level? That's Premium. Under Price Alerts, pick a ticker from your watchlist, choose goes above or drops below, enter the price, then + Add. Alerts use Chrome notifications. Chrome grants that permission at install, though your operating system can still block them. They fire only while the browser is open, with a normal web page open. An alert fires once and moves to Triggered, where you can Reset it. Full steps are in our price alerts guide.

Which one fits

  • Holdings, day P&L, allocation, CSV of positions: a portfolio popup. PortfolioWatch is built for that. Stocks Extension's portfolio view is a lighter version of the same idea. InvestFellow is not this.
  • A quick price list you open when you want it: a watchlist popup. Stock Tracker (PopVia) or Stock Radar if you also want free alerts / hover cards.
  • Prices on the page while you browse: a toolbar or ticker bar. InvestFellow if you want a free bar and watchlist with site and scroll controls. Ticker Screener if you want a free tape plus import, alerts and a research hub.
  • A full market page each time you open a tab: a new-tab dashboard (see the watchlist guide).
  • Charts and a list beside the page: a side panel.

FAQ

Is InvestFellow a portfolio tracker?

No. InvestFellow tracks prices for symbols on your watchlist and shows them in a bar. It does not store share counts, cost basis, allocation or portfolio P&L. For holdings P&L, use a portfolio extension such as PortfolioWatch (per its listing) or the portfolio view in Stocks Extension.

What's the difference between a stock tracker and a stock watchlist?

People use both phrases for the same popup list. In practice, "tracker" often implies portfolio P&L, while "watchlist" usually means prices only. This page separates those. Our watchlist guide focuses on where the list lives (bar, side panel, new tab, popup).

Is there a free stock tracker Chrome extension?

Yes, in more than one type. InvestFellow's bar and watchlist are free (no account). PortfolioWatch's listing describes a free plan with holdings limits. Stock Tracker (PopVia), Stock Radar and Ticker Screener also describe free use on their listings. Paid plans, where they exist, usually add faster refresh, more holdings, alerts or research extras. InvestFellow's Premium plan is $4.99 a month after a 7-day trial.

Are prices delayed?

They can be. Delays depend on the exchange and the tool. InvestFellow refreshes every 2 minutes on the free plan and every 4 seconds on Premium, and its prices can be delayed. A faster refresh on another extension doesn't make a delayed quote current, so check your broker before you act on a number.

Is this financial advice?

No. This page explains types of stock tracker extensions and how to set up a price bar. It doesn't tell you what to buy or sell. Do your own research before you make an investment decision.
